Homestyle Spaghetti
Serves: At least 6 (this recipe makes a lot)
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 10-15 minutes
1 67 ounce jar Prego traditional italian sauce
1 package whole wheat spaghetti noodles
1 onion, diced
4 stalks celery, diced into small chunks
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 pound ground beef (preferably organic & grass fed if possible)
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
Fresh parmesan cheese, for sprinkling
Loaf of french or artisan bread, to serve with (optional)
Pour spaghetti sauce into large saucepan and set temp to low-medium heat. Heat olive oil in medium/large frying pan over medium heat. Add onion and celery, sautéing until soft, about 5-6 minutes. Add to sauce and give a good stir. Put frying pan back on heat and add ground beef. Using a spatula, cut up into small chunks and cook until completely brown, 4-6 minutes. Add beef to sauce and stir well. Sprinkle oregano and parsley to sauce and stir well. Keep heat on low, stirring every once in a while.
Add 6-8 cups water to a separate large pot. Add a little salt and bring water to a boil. Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain well, and add a drizzle of olive oil to keep noodles from sticking. Arrange noodles on plates and pour sauce over. Serve with warm bread, if desired & a glass of red wine.
