Poached Cinnamon Pears
Serves: 2-3
Prep time: 15 minutes
Poach time: 10 minutes
2-3 fresh bartlett pears
2 cups white wine
1 cup apple or white grape juice
2-4 cups water
1/4 cup sugar or 3 tablespoons honey
2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
2-3 tablespoons brown sugar
Ground cinnamon, for sprinkling
Combine wine, apple or white grape juice, 2 cups of water, sugar or honey, and cinnamon sticks in medium-large saucepan. Bring to boil.
Meanwhile, take skin off pears using vegetable peeler. Cut pears in half and carefully scoop out core using spoon.
Place pears in wine mixture and return to a boil. If pears aren't completely covered, add enough water so they are completely submerged.
Once mixture is boiling, take off heat, cover, & let sit for 5-8 minutes. To check if done: use knife and go straight through middle. If it goes through easily but there is a little resistance, they are done! You don't want them to be soggy, so don't let them sit too long!
Remove from wine using spoon with slits, so they drain. Place in serving bowls and sprinkle a TINY amount of cinnamon and brown sugar over top. Enjoy!!!
